Course Assessment

  1. Each Cisco course requires that a student complete a number of assessment items to a satisfactory level. The assessment items and pass levels will be described to the students at the beginning of each course.

Typical assessment items include the student's journal, completion of chapter exams, completion of lab exercises, attendance during the course, the final on-line exam, any final lab exam, delivery of a case study document, and/or oral presentation of a case study.

  2. One assessment component of each course is a final on-line exam, conducted by Cisco themselves. Students must have successfully completed 75% of chapter exams before taking the final exam.
  3. If a student fails the final exam, they will be permitted to resit this exam within 7 days of the original exam at no extra cost. It is the student's responsibility to arrange with their lecturer for the exam resit.
  4. If the student fails the free resit, they may opt to take a second resit, for which they will be charged an administrative fee of $100. The second resit must be taken within 14 days of the original exam. It is the student's responsibility to arrange with their lecturer for the exam resit.
  5. If the student fails the original exam and both resits, then they are deemed to have failed the semester and re-enrolment is necessary to obtain recognition for that semester. The normal course fee will apply for re-enrolment in that semester.

Recognised Prior Learning

  1. A person who believes that they have a good knowledge of Cisco Semester One may apply to gain Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) status for this semester.
  2. To confirm their RPL for the semester, a person must sit and pass the semester's final on-line exam. The administrative fee will be charged to take this exam.
  3. A person will not be provided with access to a semester's on-line study materials if they are sitting a semester exam for RPL status.
  4. RPL for Cisco Semesters Two and higher is not available.
  5. In terms of enrolment, students who have gained RPL status for a particular semester will be given lower priority than continuing students who have completed that semester. For example, a student who has Semester One RPL status will only be eligible to enrol in a Semester Two course if the continuing Semester One students do not fill all of the Semester Two positions.

Please note that the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunication reserves the right to make changes to this policy at any time and without notice.
